Missile Man Dr. A.P.J Abdul Kalam A Great Scientist
Avul Pakir Jainulabdeen Abdul Kalam, better known as Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam, was born on October 15, 1931 in the Tamil Nadu temple town of Rameswaram. He came from a very underprivileged Tamil Muslim family. His mother was a homemaker, while his father worked as a boatman and served as an imam in a nearby mosque.
Dr. Abdul Kalam was a diligent and intelligent student despite having to sell newspapers in his early years to support his family due to poverty.He began his education at Ramanathapuram's Schwartz Higher School. After graduating in physics from the University of Madras, he continued his studies at the Madras Institute of Technology to pursue a career in aeronautical technology.
Dr. Kalam began his scientific career at the Aeronautical Development Establishment of the DRDO, where he was a student of the renowned researcher Vikram Sarabhai. He began making contributions as a scientist in 1969 while serving as the project director of India's first satellite Launch Vehicle (SLV-III), which is credited with developing the Polar Satellite Launch Vehicle and was used to launch the satellite Rohini in 1980. He was also a key contributor to the creation of the Prithvi and Agni missiles.In 1992, when the Pokhran-II nuclear tests were being performed, Dr. Kalam served as the Prime Minister's Chief Scientific Advisor.
Dr. Kalam was chosen to serve as India's 11th president in 2002. He was known as the "People's President." He turned down Dhananjoy Chatterjee's request for clemency while he was president, even though he had been found guilty of both horrific rape and murder. Only the third President has received the Bharat Ratna before him. In 2005, he additionally imposed President's control in Bihar.
He did not, however, run for a second term as president; instead, he went back to his academic work, which he did until his passing in 2015.
